Volunteer Opportunities
There are many different volunteer
opportunities available:
Counselor
These volunteers complete a 24-hr Volunteer Training Seminar, an
orientation and then works one-on-one with FCWS clients. This person can
commit to pray for a specific staff member or volunteer. They are also
asked to pray for the current needs of the FCWS highlighted in a monthly
prayer letter. A weekly prayer meeting is held at the center also.
Language
Interpreters/translators
Some clients do not speak English well and counselors need assistance
with communication.
Helpline Volunteer
At the end of the FCWS work day, a special call-forwarding feature is
engaged so that incoming client calls can be routed to and answered from
a volunteer’s home. This special service is the Helpline Ministry and
requires the completion of the 24-hr Basic Training Seminar. The
volunteer commits to receive calls on a one shift per week schedule.
Intercessor
A volunteer who is committed to praying for the specific needs of the
FCWS and our clients. This person can commit to pray for a specific
staff member or volunteer. They are also asked to pray for the current
needs of the FCWS highlighted in a monthly prayer letter. A weekly
prayer meeting is held at the center also.
Receptionist
We prefer for these volunteers to also complete the 24-hr Volunteer
Training Seminar, but may be trained on the job. This position is
responsible for making client appointments, performing simple office
duties, and answering and directing all in-coming calls. A weekly
commitment to a 2.5, 3 or 4 hour shift is required.
Church Liaison
This position is for individuals with a willingness to promote FCWS to
their church. This person helps coordinate their church’s involvement in
fundraising events, helps in making members aware of FCWS upcoming
training/events through the church newsletter and bulletin, and is key
contact between the FCWS and their church.
Fundraising/Auxiliary Volunteer
This individual helps to raise money for the
ministry of FCWS through various fund raising events/ efforts throughout
the year. These events require short-term time commitments and involve
working closely with the Director of Development.
Support Services
Volunteer
This individual works flexible hours washing, folding hanging,
organizing, and mending donated maternity and baby clothes and
furnishings.
School Liaison
This person increases student and administrator awareness of the FCWS and
the help we offer at local schools/universities, facilitating client
referrals.
Maintenance/Repair
Volunteer
These volunteers are needed to do regular maintenance,
such as replacing fluorescent light bulbs and A/C filters, and to help
with other repairs as needed.
House Beautifier
House beautifiers clean the FCWS facility once a month per volunteer.
