Are there free abortions in Florida?

As of 2024, abortion beyond six weeks, as calculated by last period, is not legal in Florida. Therefore, there are no programs that offer free abortions in Florida as that would defy state law. However, there are free resources for pregnant women about reproductive healthcare at our facility. For example, we offer completely free, confidential abortion information, free reproductive health information counseling, family resources, referrals to all manners of social support services, and limited medical services like ultrasounds.

Does Medicaid in Florida cover abortions? 

Neither public nor private funds can be used for abortion after six weeks of pregnancy unless the woman’s life is endangered or the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.

How much do abortions cost?

The cost of an abortion depends on what procedure is performed. The three options are: medicated abortion, suction abortion, and dilation and evacuation. The procedure chosen is based on gestational age, as well as factors like viability and location of the pregnancy. Dilation and evacuation is often done in two separate sessions, thus it is often twice as expensive, but it is the only option for a late term abortion. At FCWS, we offer free ultrasounds, which can tell you the gestational age, viability, and location of your pregnancy, which is all information that you would need in order to determine the cost of an abortion.
